Basketball League 2024-25: Get Ready to Hoop!

Key Dates to Mark:

• Registration Closes: Tuesday, December 31th, 2024
• Start Date: Friday, January 3th, 2024  
• End Date: TBA
• Registration Opens: Monday, October 21st, 2024  

League Details:

• Season: Winter  
• Game Day: Fridays (game every hour from 7pm to 9pm)  
• Games per Week: 1 game per week to keep your skills sharp!  
• Location: Can Sports Center Markham, 1443 Denison Street, Markham, ON  

Fees:

• Free Agents: $224.00 (GST included)  
• Teams (8-12 players): $1810.60 (GST included)  
• Jersey Add-On: $40 per player (GST included)

Gameplay Level: Competitive recreational

Players have developed foundational basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, and shooting. While some may be newer to organized league play, all participants have prior experience and are continuing to build their game in a fun and competitive environment. Not meant for beginners or the Uber competitive highly skilled.

League Features:

• Exclusive Pick-Up Runs: Tuesday evenings (5:30-7:00 PM) – get in some extra runs with your Can Sports Center membership!  
• League Jersey provided
• Online Stats: Track your points and scores online. (Video highlights might be coming soon, stay tuned!)

Free Agents:  

Don’t have a team? No problem! We’ll place you on a team with other free agents or match you with teams that need players. Three free agents available for teams to pick up.

League Format:

• 8-12 games with single-elimination playoffs  
• Divisions may be realigned after 3-5 weeks, depending on performance  
• Each game: Two 23-minute halves (running clock)  
• Final 3 minutes of the second half = stop-time if the score is within 12 points  
• 1 timeout per half (no carryovers)  
• Overtime: 2-minute period, and if still tied, the game ends!

Rules & Disciplinary Actions: We love the competitive spirit, but good sportsmanship is key!  

• Ejections= Minimum 1-game suspension  
• 3 technical fouls in a season = 1-game suspension (additional fouls result in more suspensions)  
• 2 technical fouls in a single game = automatic 1-game suspension (multiple violations will lead to longer suspensions and possibly expulsion)

Additional Info:

• Players can warm up on side courts before their games, so come early and get ready.  
• All players must sign the Can Sports Center Basketball Program Waiver before hitting the court.  
• Teams must have at least 5 registered players to start a game, and no borrowing players from other teams!
